John Adams did not have the personal appearance that Washington had. He was short and rather fat. However, he wanted to be treated like a king and so rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Also, he was overly afraid of a revolution and was willing to restrict personal liberties in order prevent any sort of subversive activities. He was especially concerned about new immigrants who were not a part of the American Revolution.
