What were the consequences of the Korean War?

It stopped Soviet-Red Chinese aggression in Korea and also served a deterrent effect on both for the 1950s. As a result of being liberated, South Korea steadily developed into a prosperous state.

The most obvious answer is: The North Korea that we have now. And the South Korea. The war was pursued in a time when it seemed vital to stop communistic ideology from spreading....which to may now show to be a rather short sighted, lack of true confidence in the long term viability of our own beliefs and ideas. It is unlikely that North Korea could have survived as a viable entity without the focus of "evil capitalism", a trade embargo, and Americans to blame their every problem upon. More likely, Korea would be a nation much like Vietnam, were turmoil and strife turned into reasonable order and prosperity for the benefit of it's people. People must come to reason and order on their own. The introduction of foreign influences corrupts and makes illegitimate most attempts toward progress.
