Your local insurance broker (Or me) can help you out, but just as an FYI in home day care is considered VERY high risk, so the cost of insurance on the operations is likely to be $7,500+ per year including general liability and an employee or two on work comp. This does not include any coverage for transporting kids which would be seperate, along with most likely an accident and injury policy for smaller bodily injury claims.
You need General Liability Insurance. Many isurers have programs tailored for day care canters you can obtain from any authorized insurer in your state.
If you run a small daycare out of your home, you can sometimes add an endorsement to your home insurance for about $150.00 oer year. The limit is usually 4-6 children. If you are operating a larger day care in your home, the cost of insurance may start at $1,000 per year or more depending on size, experience, etc.
B. Liability insurance
Not likely. The owners liability coverage is generally an option under the home property insurance policy. I don't know of any insurance company that would sell Liability as a stand alone coverage for a home.
As of this date, liability insurance is not required but SB2029 requires that home improvement contractors disclose to home owners in writing to any potential customer whether or not they carry commercial liability insurance.
The liability portion of your home insurance policy provides protection in the event someone asserts a claim of liability against the homeowner for damages or injuries.
Personal liability insurance provides additional coverage to other insurance policies. Without personal liability insurance, any thing that one's home or car insurance could not cover, one would have to pay out of pocket. Personal liability insurance will cover those fines.
For a daycare, whether it be at a rented location or in home, you need to have general liability insurance, workers compensation insurance for employees, and possibly an accident policy to cover the children should small medical issues/claims arise from your daycare operation. Transporting the childern would bring significant additional risk so is best to avoid if possible. At home daycares are more difficult to insure than a facility specifically built for daycare and 100% childproofed. In California, insurance for a start up daycare facility with two employees is likely to cost over $10k for the whole package (Gl and work comp)
Automobile Liability insurance, YES. Liability insurance, NO. There are many kinds of liability insurance.
Consult LOCAL insurance companies.
You home owners liability insurance should cover it.
No, it does not. That is why there are different policies called "home insurance" and "vehicle insurance".(The answer above is not entirely true. The homeowner insurance "liability portion" may pay for the vehicle damage as long as there is not an animal liability exclusion)
