He just has to go through the short tunnel section, across the tunnel bridge and carry on until he arrives at the desert area where he can turn off (on the left hand side when the fence ends). This takes him on to the road near the roadhouse called The Li'l Probe Inn, which has a model revolving flying saucer on a pole at the front. He just needs to drive on past that on the road there, and before the road ends, there is a track to the right which leads to Area 69.
