Many amendments to the U. S. Constitution have been proposed to change or abolish the presidential/ vice presidential electoral process. None got farther than the Bayh-Celler Amendment, which was proposed in 1968 or 1969 but fell victim to a filibuster and died when the 91st Congress retired in January, 1971.

There is currently no proposed constitutional amendment before congress to change the electoral process. However, several states have entered into a compact, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which, if enough states agree to it, would effectively abolish the power of the electoral system without due process.
