A recently deceased Senator who served the US Government from 1962 to 2009. He was the younger brother of John and Robert Kennedy, and survived the "Kennedy Curse" despite suffering a plane crash in 1964 and driving his car into a river in 1968.

Ted Kennedy represented liberalism throughout his long career as was sometimes nicknamed "The Lion of the Senate". He achieved as much many Presidents, and addressed healthcare, poverty, civil rights, Immigration and education, and called Universal Health Care "the cause of my life". He was a lifelong Democrat but made many negotiations with Republicans.

Kennedy had intended to run for President, but his reputation was spoilt by the Chappaquiddick Incident in 1968, when he drove a car into a river, escaped but failed to rescue the passenger Mary Jo Kopechne. He didn't stand for president in 1972 or 1976, had a go in 1980 and didn't get the nomination.
