because he was thought he was better then thomas jefferson so he went for the federalist party
The election of 1800 resulted in a tie between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. The constitution stated that the house of representatives were to elect the president if there was ever to be a tie. while the federalist party put all the support behind Burr the over all win came from Alexander Hamilton using his influential role in congress to persuade the house of representatives to choose Thomas Jefferson.
According to the Constitution, the House of Representatives had to choose between Burr and Jefferson. The Democratic-Republicans clearly intended for Jefferson to be president. However, the (New) House of Representatives, dominated by Jefferson's party, would not take office for some months. Federalists still held a majority in the House, and their votes would decide the winner.Aaron Burr refused to concede the election to Thomas Jefferson. Although the House of Representatives did eventually choose Jefferson as the clear winner (with an absolute majority of the votes) it wasn't until the 36th ballot!
These ideas were similar to the french philosophy known as laissez-faire. THis phrase means " let people do as they choose.''
