I have read many reasons why this was done. Conspiracy theorist come with a lot of imagination these days. The first oath was done over the 1861 Bible President Lincoln used wich is not mandatory as only a tradition started by The first President George Washington. I believe an oath is like baptism. Once you baptise you dont need to baptise again, you just follow along with your faith the rest of your life. Obama took an oath over The Bible and one is just enough for the rest of his presidential mandate.
Michelle Obama
No, he used the Bible to take his oath of office.
President Obama swore the oath of office on Abraham Lincoln's Bible.
Obama and TR Roosevelt
i think that science tifuclly obama wikll be takeing the second oath...
Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath to Obama for the second time.
The bible is the book on which the president keeps his left hand and takes the oath.
None. When Barack Obama put his hand on the Bible, the book was closed.
Barack used former President Lincoln's bible.
I assume you are referring to when Chief Justice Roberts read the oath incorrectly the first time, during the president's January 2009 inauguration. Just to be on the safe side, the oath was re-administered the next day; it was done in the Map Room at the White House, and no Bible was used, since it was not necessary. (The president had used a Bible the previous day, and the oath was considered valid, even if the wording was slightly out of order.)
Barack Obama has always used a Holy Bible when he took the oath of office, contrary to internet myths. He took the oath in 2008 on the Bible used by Abraham Lincoln. He did that again in 2012, in addition to using a Bible that Martin Luther King used.
I assume you're asking about the Presidential Oath of Office he read on Tuesday. What he read was not actually FROM the bible, his oath is sworn with his hand ON the bible (in his case, Abraham Lincoln's bible) so he is taking the oath "under the eyes of god" or something like that. Basically it's a sin to lie with your hand on the bible. However, the oath itself is from Article II, Section I from the U.s. Constitution.
