The Justices appointed by Truman turned out to all be fairly conservative... at least one of them so much so that Truman (who was more moderate) regretted it himself later. This doesn't in itself necessarily mean that they were bad, simply that they weren't as liberal as some people had wanted them to be. A more substantial (and less ideological) objection was that a couple of the appointments were perceived as cronyism; for example, one of Truman's selections had served as Truman's Attorney General, but had no prior judicial experience. (This was, in fact, the one whose appointment Truman later called the biggest mistake of his career.)
