George was born in London, Norfolk house two months premature. He was baptised the same day as it was thought that he would not survive because he was premature. However, a month later he was baptised again at the place of his birth. He then grew into a healthy and shy child. George's grandfather (George II, 1683-1760) took little interest in his grandchildren as he disliked George's father, Frederick The prince of Wales,( 1707-1751). However, George's father died suddenly in 1751 and George now became heir to the throne. His grandfather then took interest in him and gave him the title 'Prince of Wales'. In 1760 George II died suddenly and George became George III. He then married Princess Charlotte Mecklenburg-Strelitz on the 8th September 1761. The couple enjoyed a happy marriage and had 15 children. By 1810 he was virtually blind and was in pain from rheumatism. By the end of 1811 George was declared permanently mad and lived in seclusion in Windsor Castle where he died. It is unknown whether he actually knew that he was King of Hanover in 1814 or that his wife died in 1818. He later died on 29th January 1820 after a 59 year reign, aged 81.
