Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn for Quakers that were emigrating from England. The land was given by the king of England Charles II as a favor to William Penn's father for returning him to the throne after the rule of Oliver Cromwell. the benefit of the land grant was to get a Major dissident and his followers to leave the country.
