Growing tobacco affected the Jamestown Colony in many ways, it was an ideal source of gold and and earning money was one of the reasons they had originally come to Virginia. But of course there was a down side which was that they needed many, many , many workers to get the grand majority of tobacco plant attended and so they tried indentured servants and even native Americans, but they did not want to pay because that would increase the cost of these plantations. But as soon as the English men had to take up all that space for a plantation and even enslave a native Americans, both groups of people became mortal enemies. In the end they settled upon slavery, which is why there was slavery in America all these years until the civil war.
