In the 1820s the Far West was roved by American trappers and some military expedition for exploration purposes, but no settlers.
In March 1833 a Methodist periodical, The Christian Advocate and Journal, published a letter sent by an Indian Agent reporting that in 1831 several northwestern Indians arrived in St. Louis had asked that the White's man "Book of Heaven" and competent instructors be sent to them.
So, religious motives provoked a further drive towards those territories. The letter was to be a powerful encouragement for devout Evangelical Christians to settle there as missionaries, especially in Oregon.
Those people lead the way and was soon followed by businessmen and traders, growing the knowledge and the interest for the Oregon Country and other
part of continent west of the Rockies among the people living eastward of Mississippi. The missions which had established there served as point of reference for the increasing flow of migrant people who aimed to settle in those lands, providing them with advices first aids etc. and helping them to build up a new life in the spirit of what was termed "The Manifest Destiny of American Nation"

They 'founded' the west, before any American inhabited such territories. The westward expansion only made use of already existing trails and cities.
There are many plants found on the Westward Expansion, such as wild flowers. I am not 100% sure of names... But you can search on the internet: What were some names of the plants found in the Westward Expansion? If anybody knows that answer to this question, please edit this answer and help others learn the answer. Thank you!

It would help ease the debate over slavery.
It allowed the ploughing up of the tough soil of the prairies and allowed the expansion of American agriculture beyond the Alleganies. Nothing contributed more to American expansion westward.
