Fremont was an interesting man. He was with Lewis and Clark and later was asked by the President to come to CA to help gage how easy it would be to take it from Mexico. The Mexican officials were told that Fremont was in CA to map it, but he was reporting troop numbers and making contacts with people like Sutter. When the time came Fremont and his men took the Mexican governor hostage, put him in Sutter's Fort, and declared the "Bear Flag" Republic. They took over the government with the approval of the President. The Gold Rush was also going on and the population of Americans in CA grew so fast that it was impossible for the Mexican government to overcome the combination of factors in the loss of CA. CA became a state on Sept. 9, 1850.
Lewis and Clark's expedition provided invaluable information about the geography, natural resources, and indigenous peoples of the western United States. Their detailed maps and journals documented the terrain, waterways, and potential routes for future settlers and explorers. This knowledge facilitated westward expansion, helping later pioneers navigate and settle the land more effectively. Additionally, the expedition fostered a sense of American curiosity and ambition regarding the vast territories beyond the Mississippi River.

They 'founded' the west, before any American inhabited such territories. The westward expansion only made use of already existing trails and cities.

The stagecoach played a crucial role in Westward Expansion by providing a reliable means of transportation for people and goods across vast distances. It connected remote settlements to major cities, facilitating communication and commerce. Additionally, the stagecoach enabled settlers to travel more safely and efficiently, encouraging migration and the establishment of new communities in the West. Its introduction helped lay the groundwork for future transportation developments, including railroads.
It was getting more difficult to create new slave-states, so the South were in danger of being out-voted in Congress, which would then pass laws unfavourable to Southern interests.
