Prior to the availability of horses which were brought by Europeans, the primary Indian mode of transportation was the canoe in the Summer and sleds in the Winter using trails in use for centuries. When horses became available wagons and coaches were used on
roads when roads were available. Otherwise the Indians rode individual horses.
