There were arguably eighteen colonies in mainland North America after 1774 and on the eve of Revolution. The original Thirteen Colonies were Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts (to which Maine belonged), and New Hampshire. East and West Florida were ceded from Spain in 1763, while Quebec was ceded from France in the same year. The other two colonies were Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Hope that this helps.
