How were middle colonies different from the new England colonies?

The biggest difference between the two regions is the soil composure. In New England you had a much rockier soil composure while in the Middle Colonies you had a much softer, fertile soil composure. Because of this farming in the New England colonies was very hard. Also becasue of the difference in soil composure there are different kinds of forests. In New England you have many more coniferous forests, because of the colder weather patterns and harder soil composition, in the Middle states forest are dominated by deciduos trees, or trees that loose their leaves in autumn. The climate in the New England colonies is much harsher also leading to short planting seasons for the Pilgrims. It was not an ideal location for a settlement -- the Pilgrims were actually shooting for Virginia, but a storm threw them off path and they ended up in what is today Provincetown, Cape Cod, MA

What were the three types of English colonies in America and how were they different?

The three types of English Colonies in America were the New England Colonies to the north, the Middle Colonies in the middle, and the Southern Colonies in the south. The New England Colonies were New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. The Middle Colonies were Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The Southern Colonies were North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, and Virginia. The New England Colonies didn't need slaves to work mainly because they were mostly merchants. Rhode Island even outlawed slavery in 1652 but joined in on the slave trade to make a profit. In the Middle Colonies needed slaves a little more than New England, but only for Blacksmiths, Merchants, and ect. The Southern Colonies relied nearly completely on slaves to work on large plantations.

The soil in the Middle Colonies was more fertile and suitable for farming larger crops like wheat and grains, while New England had more rocky and poor quality soil. This difference allowed the Middle Colonies to develop a more diverse agricultural economy, while New England focused more on fishing, trading, and small-scale agriculture.
