It was in the early 1930s that radical political groups gained support throughout the US. During this time the country was faced with major economical problems and they wanted to survive the Great Depression. Radical political groups provided solutions to dig out of these problems.
The French Revolution
Radical Reconstruction was a period from 1867 to 1877 during which Congress, dominated by the Radical Republicans, implemented measures to rebuild the South and secure civil rights for freed African Americans following the Civil War. This included the establishment of military districts in the South, the passage of the 14th and 15th Amendments, and the creation of new state governments. The failure of Radical Reconstruction led to the resurgence of white supremacy, the establishment of Jim Crow laws, and systemic disenfranchisement of Black voters, resulting in decades of racial segregation and inequality that persisted well into the 20th century.
The Black Panthers advocated violent solutions to the discrimination African-Americans suffered for over one hundred years after the abolition of slavery during the 1960s.
The French Revolution (1789-1799) was a period of political and social upheaval and radical change in the history of France, during which the French governmental structure, previously an absolute monarchy with feudal privileges for the aristocracy and Catholic clergy, underwent radical change to forms based on Enlightenment principles of citizenship and inalienable rights. These changes were accompanied by violent turmoil which included the trial and execution of the king, vast bloodshed and repression during the Reign of Terror, and warfare involving every other major European power.
