Initially they were and that continued for years because the folks that lived through the Japanese occupation kept the memories alive. But, as with all cultures, the more years away from it and more people that never lived it the memories died. After that many of the younger folks began to see the US as an occupying force. Our leases on bases in the Philippines ran out in the 1980's and most US interests there pulled out.
