Some major cities in the Union states during the Civil War included New York City, Chicago, and Philadelphia. These cities were significant for their economic power, transportation networks, and population density, contributing to the Union's war efforts. Other notable cities included Boston, Cincinnati, and St. Louis, each playing important roles in industry, logistics, and supply for the Union army.
The Emancipation Proclamation led to the freeing of slaves, some of which joined the Union Army (helping the Union, partly, to prevail in the Civil War). European countries did not support the South in the American Civil War. International support for the North in the American Civil War increased. More African Americans in the south joined the union army.
Atlanta. This was not meant to be his objective. Grant had simply told him to destroy the Army of Tennessee, but he had not managed to achieve this. Meanwhile it was election year, and Lincoln needed some victories in a hurry. So Sherman took Atlanta, and the North felt a bit less war-weary.
Many slaves were freed by the Union armies in their Southern campaigns, and these ex-slaves were generally employed around the Union army camps as fatigue-parties, some of them gradually being accepted as soldiers and put into uniform. The Confederates resisted any idea of putting slaves into uniform until it was much too late. They were only starting to recruit black troops when the whistle went.
Many southerners felt this was a violation of the Constitution. General Sherman was a general in the Union Army during the Civil war.

The Union Army consisted of the northern states during the Civil War. Some people who fought in this army include: Ulysses S. Grant, Winfield Scott, Henry W. Halleck and George B. McClellan.
As far as I can tell, some of the soldiers were drafted, meaning they were required by law to join the army, or volunteered for the army.
Some simply escaped to South to join the Union Army. Others would find ways to communicate with the Union Army to pass along information about the Confederate Army, such as troop numbers and positions.

The Union Army had several leaders. Some of them were George McClellan, William Tecumseh Sherman, and Ulysses S. Grant. Abraham Lincoln was President during the Civil War.
The Union had a major advantage over the Confederacy because the Union had; Bigger armies, better iron production, better army production, and better banking.
1st Bull Run - Following some minor Union victories in the mountains (blown up big by the press), Congress thought the army must be capable of a march on Richmond. The army commander, Irvin McDowell, knew that his men were not sufficiently trained, but had no choice but to proceed. 2nd Bull Run - A large Union army was moving down from Washington to join forces with a smaller army outside Richmond. Together, these would be able to overwhelm Lee. But the unbeatable Lee-Jackson partnership was able to destroy the smaller force before the larger one arrived.
