Jamestown was one of the first permanent British Settlements in America. So a main reason would be getting new land, Placing it strategically to fend off other European countries. This is becasue of the colonization of the Americas. look in these places

Settlers started Jamestown becuase the King and Queen of England (At the time, it was King James and Queen Elizabeth) wanted wealth and power, so they sent a group of about 100 settlers and supplies to America (the unknown land) to establish Jamestown.
