According to the book "Hoecakes, Hambone, and All That Jazz - African American Traditions in Missouri" by Rose M. Nolen (pg 68), Jesse James gave some of his money to the establishment of Lincoln Institute. Today Lincoln Institute is known as Lincoln University, a historically Black University, located in Jefferson City, Missouri.
