Appeal to american patriotism to support the war effort
The Tet offensive of 1968 demonstrated that despite the element of surprise, American soldiers were able to repel determined and well coordinated attacks. Small unit tactics, excellent NCO leadership, and determination of the soldiers were able to turn the tide for the Americans. If your question about the US Embassy...on when it was attacked...day & month, it was attacked during the TET offensive, which commenced the last day of January 1968; TET is the South Vietnamese "Lunar New Year's" holiday.
The Tet Offensive began the bloodiest period and it started at the end of 1967. So, the highest casualites may be for 1968. BTW, the Viet Nam War Memorial Wall in Washington DC, has names of those killed in the war arranged in chronoligical order of the date of their death. The highest point in the wall is therefore at the period of 1967/68.
Yes. The 1968 Democratic Convention was in Chicago, Ill and it was a disaster for the Democrats. In 1968; the Rev. Martin Luther King and Senator Robert Kennedy were murdered in the spring. The Tet offensive in South Vietnam was an embarrassment for President Lydon Baines Johnson and he decided not to run again for reelection. His Vice President Hubert Humphrey looked like a wimp. There were massive demonstrations in the street, (mainly by men of draft age who might be sent to Vietnam to fight in the war), and Mayor Richard Daley's police offices used strong arm tactics which looked like a police state. The country watched it all on television with horror and shock. It was no surprise when Republican candidate Richard Nixon was elected in November. The failure of the Democrats in Chicago made them look terrible. It was probably the worst national convention of any political party in the history of the USA.
Lyndon Baines Johnson.
Yes , the Tet Offensive was detrimental because it undermined the credibility of his administration and that of the military .

The Tet Offensive
it was an enormous political loss for the United States during the war. Because the attack intensified the antiwar protest movement at home and discredited President Lyndon Johnson and U.S. military officials, the Tet Offensive represented a major turning point in the war against the United States.
the tet offensive
Walter Kronkite/Tet offensive
It led to Johnson's decision to not run for another term.
he lied about the Tet offensive, giving fake optimisms about it, trying not to let the hope of America down. every one despised him after that. overall he was not a good president. Edit: Actually, Lyndon B. Johnson wasn't that bad of a president. He passed many laws that helped society, including Medicare and Medicaid. He also passed civil rights laws, picking up from where Kennedy left off. The only reason people don't like him was the Vietnam War, as stated above. However it was the Gulf of Tonkin that he lied about, not the Tet Offensive.
