Early colonists were striving for an expansion of rights and ideals - all the while adhering to their Puritan and religious roots. The perfect venue was the Town Meeting. This forum allowed for people to have a say in their government and to discuss the issues to be put before all participants. This was a tremendous feeling of power on the part of the colonials, who know had a chance to take a part in government.
