He tried to get Legislature pass a law that "prohibited any person who was convicted of a state crime from admission to a state school." He was directing this at Meredith who had been convicted of false voter registration
Yes, as of late March 2014, he is. Meredith, the first black student to attend the University of Mississippi (back in 1962), was born in 1933. At the age of 80, he lives in Jackson, Mississippi with his second wife, and still speaks out on issues related to racism and civil rights.
