It was decreased. Many Native Americans were taken back to Europe as slaves. Many died of diseases that were brought over from Europe. Basically, Europe decided that there was a bunch of free land and people for them to take.

The natives were taller, heaver and healthier than the colonists as many have remarked about that difference. But they could not survive the diseases that they were exposed to.
