A deadline refers to the time by which something must be completed.
I was a little unsure about the actual reason for the word 'looming,' so I looked it up. In psychology, looming refers to the fact that if something rapidly gets bigger, it's perceived as getting closer.
I guess they use this, because as deadlines become more relevant in our head (ie. as they BEGIN to get closer) we start to obsess with them (ie. enlarge them), therefore making them seem closer than they actually are.
That's just my thoughts on it. Hope that helped :)
The answer is had not missed. Because its past tense
First of all, there was the looming threat of Indian attacks from nearby tribes. The water was dirty and unhealthy, leading to sickness and often death. Finally, morale was low. There was no trace of the gold they were searching for. Yeah... I had a test on Jamestown today and it had this question. :)
I am reading a collection of short stories entitled BOOT HILL and a few authors refer to the Santa Fe railroad track running through Dodge as the dead line. I would like to know how the name came about.

Napoleon's decision to sell the Louisiana Territory to the United States was influenced by two key developments. First, the failure of the French expedition to suppress the Haitian Revolution weakened France's ability to maintain its North American holdings. Second, the looming threat of renewed conflict with Britain made it essential for Napoleon to secure funds and resources, prompting him to sell the vast territory to the U.S. for $15 million in 1803.
shocked or frightend

Probably pretty worried. As a writer, I know I would.
Stacy had promised her friend she would try not to stress about the test, but it wasn't working.
When you add another stressor in your normal working day it becomes cumulative.
