The first nickels were struck in 1866 so you cannot have one dated 1863.
If you have a tiny coin with the words HALF DIME on the back it was the predecessor to the nickel; in today's market 1863 is a relatively scarce date with values ranging from $125 to $375 depending on wear.
If you have any other coin it's either foreign, a different date or denomination, or a fake. Please post a new question with a description of the images and wording on your coin so that it can be ID'ed.
Posted 3-7-11. I have a silver colored coin about the size of a present dime that has the number 5 and word cents circled by star like figures with the words "The United States of America" on the outer edge. The other side has an ornate figure resembling a harp with the words along the outer edge "In God We Trust" and the date 1863 stamped on it. What is it worth??
