Updated:Three varieties of dime were minted in 1853. Look on the front to see if there are arrows beside the date, and on the back to see if there's a small mint mark letter. It may be blank or there may be an O.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 03/2010:

No arrows, no mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $69

Moderately worn - $161

Slightly worn - $240

Almost no wear - $534

Uncirculated - $630 to $9,310 depending on quality

Arrows, no mint mark:

Very worn condition - $13

Moderately worn - $17

Slightly worn - $25

Almost no wear - $141

Uncirculated - $252 to $19,500

Arrows, "O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Very worn condition - $14

Moderately worn - $29

Slightly worn - $39

Almost no wear - $498

Uncirculated - $1,440 to $12,500

it is probably worth about $20 if it is in perfect condition but if you are trying to sell it then you should really try eBay because i heard somone sold a cheezit box for like $25 and it was empty

More informationMultiple varieties of dime were struck that year. Retail market prices as of 12/2008 are:

No arrows beside the date: very worn, $60; moderately worn, $240, almost uncirculated, $500

Arrows beside the date and no mint mark under the word DIME: $13 / $25 / $130

Arrows beside the date and a letter "O" mint mark under the word DIME: $14 / $39/ $340
