The W is not a mint mark. It's the initial of the coin's designer, A. A. Weinman. On coins issued before 1968, the mint mark - if there is one - is located on the reverse side. In the case of the dime it's near the word ONE at the bottom of the design.

1944 dimes remain fairly common collectibles, so unless it's uncirculated it's only worth its current silver value, around a dollar.

1944 dime ?i have found what i think is a dime / date - 1944 not sure tho ?? any idea what this is / i can make out on the back it says United States of America .. a small coin with a lady standing on the front and an eagle atop a scroll like figure .. thanks
