Abraham Lincoln was the US president during the US Civil War.

There were six other US presidents that served in the US Civil War.

Ulysses S. Grant- Rose to the rank of Lieutenant General, Union.

Rutherford B. Hayes- Rose to the rank of Brevet Major General, Union.

James A. Garfield- Rose to the rank of Major General, Union.

Chester A. Arthur- Did not command in the field, but was a Brigadier General and Quartermaster General for the state of New York.

Benjamin Harrison- Became a Brigadier General, Union.

William McKinley- Was brevetted to the rank of Major, Union.

An interesting side note is that President Grover Cleveland hired a substitute to take his place in the army so he could support his mother. He would be the only president to serve two presidential terms of office that were not consecutive.
