During the American Civil War, several Union states were geographically isolated from the rest of the Union due to the presence of Confederate territory. Notably, Missouri, Kentucky, and West Virginia were surrounded by Confederate states or territories, complicating communication and logistics. Additionally, the state of Delaware was geographically close to the Confederacy, but it remained loyal to the Union. These isolated states faced unique challenges in maintaining their allegiance during the conflict.
The two states that fought with the Union but did not share a border with the other twenty-one Union states are California and Oregon. California was not isolated from the rest of the country. The railroads had regular routes to CA and ships came into the ports. There was also the use of the telegraph and later the phone. By 1850 when CA became a state there were other western states as well. So, it has never been isolated.

Texas could and did secede from the Union with the rest of the Confederate states. Texas declared its secession from the United States in 1861 to join the Confederate States of America.
Switzerland is not isolated from the rest of Europe. It has open borders. Most border crossing places are unmanned. Anybody can cross the border in either direction whenever they want to.
