The last major port city of the Confederacy to fall in Union hands, on Feb. 22,1865. was that of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Galveston, Texas - fell in May 1865 in Union hands, but it wasn't a major port city.

The south had to reconstruct their economy, as the slaves were a major part of the South's economy at the time. Do not think that the North won and said "Too Bad!", the North helped in the reconstruction as well.
