i think it was to get more tx incomes to pay for the war expenses and support those i military, since quartering acts weren't doing so hot.

The Stamp Act was to repay the debt from the French and Indian War.

The reason that they wanted taxes on paper was to get income back from the french-Indian war, as said before, but the colonists disliked the idea and already had problems with there taxes. eventually they came up with the phrase "no taxation without representation"

I honestly think that the purpose of the stamo act was direct tax imposed by the british parliament. In other words direct tax..

What was the purpose of the stamp act and the Townshend acts?

Both were intended to raise revenue through taxation, but the Townshend acts were also a punitive measure against the colonists. The Stamp Act, in effect, gave the British government the power to establish the legality of documents. The Townshend Act forced the colonies to pay for the British officials who would regulate them, independent of their own control.
