American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands.
General Beauregard had escaped to Corinth after the Battle of Shiloh. When he was forced to evacuate the city, Union General Henry Halleck was able to achieve one of his primary goals in Mississippi, which was breaking up the Memphis and Charleston railway.
The Battle of Chickamauga, fought in September 1863, was indeed the last significant victory for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Led by General Braxton Bragg, the Confederate forces were able to push back Union General William Rosecrans and secure a tactical victory. However, the Union army was able to regroup and hold their position, preventing the Confederacy from capitalizing further.
It ended the last hope of Confederate victory or negotiated peace. The election result meant that the North was voting to fight on. After this, the Confederates could do no more than resist surrender until the last moment, just because this was the Confederate thing to do. (Some would call it downright irresponsible.) The re-election of Ab. Lincoln put shame into the southerner's hearts. Also, the southerners knew that the war was over because of this event. After this, General Lee was surrounded and eventually surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse. Causing the war to be over, a Union victory.
Vicksburg was the most cosrtly to the Confederates, because it liberated the Mississippi, and effectively ended the war in the West, freeing-up Grant and Sherman to join forces with the Army of the Cumberland at Chattanooga. Gettysburg is often cited as the key turning-point of the war, but this was more psychological than strategic, reflecting Lee's failure to invade the North, and the diminshed effectiveness of his army after the death of Stonewall Jackson. Nothing much happened in the East as a result of Gettysburg.
Go to the aid of the Army of the Cumberland at Chattanooga.
The Mississippi passed into Union control, and all Confederate units to the west of the river were cut-off.
American victory put and end to the British threat to the northwest
The Union controlled the Mississippi River after defeating the Confederates in the Vicksburg Campaign.
The result of the victory were that the Americans had a huge advantage. The English General finally surrendered to the patriots due to their huge loss. And thus ended the war.
What was the result of the battle of Vicksburg
As a result of the capture of Vicksburg, the Union gained complete control of the Mississippi Valley and were able to use it as a line of logistical communications, setting the stage for a number of future victories.
General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia was in the process of recovering from its victory at Chancellorsville. Although his victory there against Union Major General Joseph Hooker and the Army of the Potomac was one of the most successful battles in which a heavily outnumbered force defeated a Union army that had a two to one advantage, Lee's victory did result in large casualties.Lee reasoned that sending troops from Virginia to Mississippi would be a wasted effort. And, often overlooked was Lee's belief that sending troops westward would significantly weaken the Army of Northern Virginia. He would then be forced to fall back and protect Richmond. The end result would be a siege on two important cities instead of one. Lee was aware that the Army of the Potomac still had enough troops to plan an assault on the Rebel capital.
The second battle of Bull Run was another Bull Run victory for the Confederacy. General Lee drove the Union forces out of Virginia as a result of his victory in the 2nd Bull Run.
"In 1941... The residents of Vicksburg, Mississippi, celebrated the Fourth of July for the first time since July 4, 1863, when the Siege of Vicksburg ended with a Union victory during the American Civil War." That according to: http://dcpages.com/Tourism/Fourth_of_July/ The Siege of Vicksburg was hard fought, and left a bitter taste in the people's mouths. I understand that the first official celebration of Independence Day came as a result of WWII.

Vicksburg fell as a result of a siege. Grant used an indirect approach to encircle the city and isolate it from reinforcements and resupply. Then he bombarded and starved it into submission.
