When Nathan Hale was a kid, he was growing up on the family farm in Coventry, Connecticut. He very likely would have had to help with the choirs, such as feeding and caring for animals, tending to the planted fields, chopping and gathering firewood. The family farm was prosperous so there would be much to do.
His father was a deacon in the church and one of his grandfathers was a reverend, so he would go to church every week.
He and his brothers were tutored locally by Joseph Huntington, which would helped him further his education. When he was only 14 years old he went to Yale College in New Haven, Connecticut and graduated when he was 18 in 1773.
