It depends on the tribe. Do you have a specific tribe in mind?
The Nooksack tribe traditionally lived in cedar plank houses. These houses were long and rectangular in shape, with a smoke hole in the roof for ventilation. The walls were made of cedar planks that could be easily removed for ventilation or in case of fire.
The Nooksack tribe traditionally built their shelters using materials readily available in their environment. They primarily constructed longhouses from wooden poles, which were covered with cedar bark or woven mats made from grasses and reeds. These structures were designed to accommodate multiple families and were well-suited to the rainy climate of the Pacific Northwest. In addition to longhouses, they also used temporary shelters, such as lean-tos, during seasonal activities like fishing and hunting.
