House Committee on Un-American Activities (HCUA) It was in existence from 1934 till 1975, at which point its responsibilities were transferred to the House Judiciary Committee. In 1947, this committee held hearings about the influence of Communist propaganda on Hollywood.

The United States Congress was firmly in support of war against Japan since the US was attacked first. Elements in the US Congress were more reluctant to go to war against Germany but Hitler's decision to declare war on the USA resolved that. In general, the US Congress supported the action of their president and followed a bilateral foreign policy.
Financial motives
In March of 1865 the US Congress became alarmed at the violence between settlers and Native American Tribes in the western frontiers. The Congress established the Joint Committee on the Condition of the Indian Tribes. This committee came to the conclusion, that at that time, white settlers were the main cause of violence between them and Native tribes.
It is an often small, temporary committee of members of Parliament (or in the US: Congress) that is appointed to deal with or investigate a specific question or problem.

This committee was formed by the US Congress as an oversight committee to see how well the Lincoln administration and its generals were handling the US Civil War effort. It was formed by radical Republicans who did not trust the West Point graduate generals or the Lincoln administration. This therefore was demoralizing to the US military and to Lincoln and his administration.

Each committee is an area of specialization that is further divided into subcommittees. These are permanent. *Joint Committees: These are also permanent. The tasks assigned to them are very diverse. *House Rules Committee: these are very powerful standing committees in the House. Once a bill has been approved by the appropriate standing committee, it is then sent to this one, which will govern rules on what will happen tot he bill once it is on the floor.
