Britain hired German "Hessian" mercenaries to fight US colonists during the Revolutionary (1776-1783). Other wise the British thought themselves fully capable of defeating it's rebellious colonials in what they considered the "savage Americas."
Great Britain actually did consider North America to be a densely forested (or jungled) continent inhabited by savages. Which is why they also banished many of their "unwanted" citizens to North America instead of "jailing them" which costed money. When the standing Regular British Army went up against the American Colonists on the battlefield, the British considered and complained that the Americans fought "unfairly with guerrilla tactics" and not as civilized "gentlement."
Which is most likely why many students today, considering that whole above paragraph, are always asking the same question about the Vietnam War: "How is the Revolutionary War similar to the Vietnam War?" Well the French war (1946-1954) might be comparable, but not the American war (1955-1975).
In the French War, the Viet Minh, like the American colonists were fighting against their ruler (France and Britain respectively). But in the "American" Viet War, it was closer to the US Civil War (War of Rebellion as it is officially called in the archives/or war between the states). North against South, Draft, Draft Riots, Northern victory, Southern defeat, both wars had a "Brown Water Navy" (Riverine Warfare), and both were long and bloody. In addition the American Viet War & US Civil War were both fought in the 60s and both wars had a US President shot in the head (assassinated). Both wars also had a US Vice President named JOHNSON assume the presidential office.
During the Civil War the value of cotton grew because of the term Cotton Diplomacy. Basically the South threatened to not ship cotton to Great Britain and France if they did not help the South win the war. This failed horribly because the South was not the main shippers of cotton for Great Britain or France and both countries had eliminated slavery already so it was against their laws to help the south.
It appears as though Jefferson Davis was seeking Great Britain's support and the South assumed such support because they supplied 75% of Great Britain's cotton. And though many of the weapons and supplies for the war came from Breat Britain to the South, Great Britain seems to be selling to the highest bidder. And some products even went to both the North and the South. Yet the events of the Trent Affair almost pushed them to declare their clear support for the South -- almost pushing them into war with the North -- even to the point of strengthening their manpower at their borders in Canada. However, the resolution of this incident actually strengthened their relationship with the United States of America. So even though the South called on Great Britain for support -- other than a business opportunities for Great Britain to make money -- Great Britain remained neutral and through the events that lead to negotiations, the relationship with the North and Great Britain was strengthened. So the question "Did Great Britain support the South?" is answered no - other than the business support also available to the North. But the question "did the Southern States request help from Great Britain in the Civil War?" The answer is YES. (though that request kind of backfired and secured Britain's neutrality and strengthened their confidence in negotiations with the North).
By being brave enought to fight in the revolutionary war!
yes
well they would not have separated and agreed to war if they did not expect to win they also expected help from Britian and France (europe imported alott of tobaco from the south) Britian:ironclad warships....France: finances and troops, however this did not come because of the emancipation proclamation and europe was very against slavery by this time
The British employed German mercenaries to help win the Revolutionary War. They also believed that they were capable of dispatching of the colonists, however they were unprepared for the guerrilla warfare tactics the colonists used.

Because Britain was glad to see its big economic rival, the USA, divided in two. France wanted influence in Mexico, and it would suit them if there was a new nation, pro-French, in-between Mexicso and the US.
The war that America fought against Britain to attain freedom was the Revolutionary War. I sincerely hope this will help your ailment :) .
America only fought Great Britain, but had help from The Netherlands, Spain, and France.
