The "Strangers" were common people- Servants, Craftspeople and poor farmers.
The "Strangers" were not necessarily "poor folks" but anyone who was not a member of the Separatist religion. Richard Warren was one of the Strangers and was a man of wealth and rank and did sign the Mayflower Compact. Some of his descendants include 2 Presidents (Grant and FDR), former Governor Palin, the Wright Brothers, Richard Gere, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Alan Shepherd and Henry Longfellow.

The two groups of people the word "Pilgrim" could apply to are the Quakers and the Puritans. The Quakers and the Puritans both came to the New World so that they could practice their own religious beliefs without being persecuted.
