Assuming this is a Mexican coin, you can probably find one in a dealer's "junk box" for a quarter.
The dos peso is a 22k gold coin tha weighs 1.667g. The actual gold content is 1.499g, or .0482 ounces, the rest being copper to add toughness to the coin. Multiply the spot price of an ounce of gold, (1424.10 this moment), times .0482 and get $68.62. Add a bit for the dealer if you're buying to about $73 or subtract a bit if you're selling to about $65 and there you are.
I'm guessing that what you have is a 1000 peso coin from Mexico, because they use the $ sign to mean "pesos", and no country whose coins are related to the U.S. dollar issues anything of that value.Unfortunately the peso's value was reduced to almost nothing by inflation, to the point where in 1992-93 Mexico replaced its old money with "nuevo pesos" (new pesos) at the rate of 1000 to 1. That makes your 1000 old pesos worth 1 new peso, which currently is only 10¢ U.S.
The Un Peso, or one peso, was minted, beginning in 1957 through 1967 as a circulating coin in Mexico (KM#459). They weighed 0.514 troy ounces, total mass. "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" is Spanish for "Mexican United States."As a foreign exchange, it is basically worthless. In 1992, the "old" Peso was re-valued, then exchanged at a rate of 1000 "old" Pesos for 1 "new" Peso. As of November 2009, the exchange rate was about 13 "new" pesos to the US dollar. As bullion, the coin weighs 15.987456 grams, or about 0.514 troy ounces total coin weight, of which 10% is silver, or 0.0514 troy ounces (10%). As of 21 September 2012, with silver at about US $34.78 per troy ounce, that gives your coin a "melt value" of about $1.79 US, or approximately $2.00, which includes the 90% copper content. As a practical matter, however, the low percentage of silver means that a bullion buyer would likely pay nowhere near that amount. As a numismatic item, the value depends on the coin's condition. 52.6 million were produced, so it is not particularly rare. In Brilliant Uncirculated condition, it may be worth anywhere from $5 to $8. In circulated condition, however, it is worth little more than its $2.00 melt value.
The Filipino peso coin features the profiles of notable Filipino national heroes such as Jose Rizal on the 1 peso coin and Andres Bonifacio on the 5 peso coin. Other coins feature important symbols and landmarks in the Philippines.
It is stated that: "So that every Filipino may know Jose Rizal, his face must be inscribed in the denomination of the highest circulation." And since the one peso coin is the denomination that has the highest circulation, his face is inscribed there.
-kasi national hero si rizal e ung one peso ay basic money ng Philippines kaya ganun din it's because at one point in every Filipino's life, they will be able to hold a one peso coin, and they will know who the Jose Rizal is -- their National Hero.
there is no 100 peso coin but if in peso coin you will multiply the 10 peso coin in 10
whose face was on the Philippine one peso bill? what national monument or event was on the back of the Philippine one peso bill? when was the Philippine one peso bill in circulation or in use? The Blue One Peso Bill with Jose Rizal's face on it was released in 1969 (The series was released in 1969 so I assume that it was released alongside the others). The first Jose Rizal 1-peso coin was released in 1972. BTW, there was also a one-peso bill and coin released during the American occupation with the peso having equivalent value as the US dollar. I'm not sure of this, i just put together some bits and pieces of things that I came across the web. Cheers!
