The south tower was hit at a much lower spot and the weight above it caused it to collapse.
The North tower was hit at 8:46 on September 11, 2001. The South tower was hit at 9:03 on September 11, 2001.

I don't know but from what it seems like, south tower fell first because airplane hit it almost in the middle of the tower so both upper part and the the lower part struggled badly. In north tower, airplane hit the upper part so there was more undamaged parts of the building at the lower part. And only upper part seriously struggled. :p
