It is worth more because only 1,230,000 were made as opposed to 1920 (59,030,000) or 1923 (50,130,000).
If you have a clear 1921-S Winged Liberty "Mercury" dime in great condition this coin could be worth thousands and thousands of dollars. The mintmark is not in any book or PGCS rating of coins. Go to a Coin Show and have a Major Coin Rating Service, (PGCS, ANACS, or NGC), RATE IT AND SLAB it for you! It will only cost you $15.00, and then raise it up at the Coin Show and shout it out...you will be rich in NO TIME. NOTE: The San Francisco Mint did not strike ANY Mercury dimes in 1921. The mintmark can only be a "D" and the coin does have value depending on the grade. Minimum of $40.00
Far and away the scarcest and most famous Mercury dime is the 1916-D coin. Values range from over $1000 in very worn condition to over $15,000 in uncirculated condition. In addition, some other scarce dates are 1921, 1921-D, 1926-S, and two "overdate" varieties resulting from re-cut dies: 1942 over 41 Philadelphia and Denver issues.
A 1921 Morgan dollar is worth about $25.00
Any dime made before 1965 is 90% silver, even in very poor condition, they are worth about $2.20 for their silver content. Dimes dated 1965 and later unless in mint packaging are only worth their face value, 10 cents. Key dates for Mercury Dimes include the 1916 D dime (very rare) and the 1942/1 overdate. Semi-key dates include 1921, 1921-D, 1926-S, 1931-S, 1931-S. The key date for Roosevelt Dimes is 1949-S. Semi-keys include 1949, 1950-S, 1951-S, 1952-S. Barber dimes and prior should be checked and graded by a coin dealer because some coins are very scarce to find in higher grades. Though, well-worn Barber dimes are often times sold for simply the scrap price of silver, even well-worn Seated Liberty coins carry a premium over scrap prices.
Every issue of United States coinage has the word "LIBERTY" on it so you could have anything. A 1921 Double Eagle would be worth $20,000-$235,000. A 1921 Morgan Dollar would be worth $19-$60,000. A 1921 Peace Dollar would be worth around $125-$50,000 depending on condition. A 1921 Half Dollar would be worth from $50-$28,000 depending on mintmark and grade. A 1921 Quarter Dollar would be worth $175-$2100 depending on grade. A 1921 Dime would be worth $65-$3600 depending on mintmark and grade. A 1921 Nickel would be worth $4-$2200 depending on mintmark and grade. A 1921 Cent would be worth $0.20-$220. I will add links to pictures of each of these coins so you can determine what you have. But basically you have something that is worth anywhere between 20 cents and $235,000!
The series of US "MERCURY" coins are dimes not dollars, post new question.
The coins with the highest values in the lowest grades are: 1916-D 1921 1921-D 1926-S and the over dates of 1942/1941

The Winged Liberty Head (aka "Mercury") Dime was minted from 1916 through 1921, 1923 through 1931, and 1934 through 1945 at the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints, with the following four exceptions: there was no 1921-S, 1923-D, 1930-S, or 1934-S varieties minted. The mint mark location for all Mercury dimes is on the back, next to the E in the word ONE. Philadelphia coins did not carry mint marks at that time. Denver and San Francisco coins will carry a D or S, respectively.
Yes, all US dimes dated 1964 and before are 90% silver and worth about $2-3 in silver content. Similarly, there are a few "key date" dimes that are worth a lot more, for example the 1916-D Mercury dime is worth a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
