All they needed was happiness to settle the war. There was no disadvantage.

The agricultural status of the Southern states was extremely high. Over 80% of the South's economy came from agriculture. Whilst industrially, it was in the dumps, while the North's industrial economy was boosting. That was a huge disadvantage for the South during the civil war.
I don't believe England helped the South during the Civil War.

During the US Civil War, the South had a number of disadvantages. Among all its problems, perhaps the biggest disadvantage was a small population which affected the number of troops the South could place on the field of battle.
