It is unlikely that World of Warcraft itself passes on a virus. This is partially due to the protection present on the Blizzard servers (where the game is hosted) and the protection in your game client called the Warden.

However, it is possible that you obtain a virus from downloading a WoW addon, or visiting a WoW fansite or - most likely - clicking a link in an email you think comes from Blizzard.

The best security you can have is by not clicking on any links in emails (even from Blizzard) and instead navigate to whatever page you need from their own homepage. In addition, an authenticator will protect your account from people if they do happen to find out your username and password. On this subject, use a special email address which you use only for your battle.net login, and not for mailing or joining websites.

It may make some people laugh, but hijacking and using/selling accounts is a multi-million dollar industry, and it helps to do what you can to protect your account, since it takes some time to get it back even after Blizzard deactivates it.
