actually you can play over 300 of them (acording to the xbox website) if you have an xbox 360 elite but if you have and xbox 360 pro

Yes, it does play some original Xbox games, mostly only the more popular titles. A complete list of compatible games is available at Xbox.com. You must, however, have a hard drive on your console so that the emulation software for the original Xbox games can be installed. Without this emualtion software, your console will not run the original Xbox games.
