Only time will tell. It has to be proven he broke the law.
However, if Trump is impeached, he will not be able to run for future elections, which is mot likely his plan for the 2024 election. Also, after Presidents leave office, they are still on a government payroll ranging to about a 400,000 salary. With impeachment, he won't have access to that either.
Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached and both were later acquitted. Richard Nixon almost got impeached but resigned before.
Three American presidents have been impeached: Andrew Johnson in 1868, Bill Clinton in 1998, and Donald Trump in 2019 and 2021. Johnson and Clinton were both acquitted by the Senate, while Trump was also acquitted both times.
VP Mike Pence would take over.
First Trump would have to commit an impeachable offense (which he hasn't yet), then be impeached by the House (unlikely since it is controlled by the party that nominated him as their candidate), then convicted on articles of impeachment by the Senate (also unlikely for the same reason). If Trump were no longer president then the Vice President (who will be Mike Pence) would assume the office of President of the United States.
If Trump were to be removed from office, Vice President Mike Pence would take over. If Pence were also removed, for some reason, Speaker Paul Ryan would take over.
U.S. President Andrew Johnson was impeached in 1868, primarily over his violation of the Tenure of Office Act. He was acquitted by the Senate, falling just one vote short of the two-thirds majority needed for removal. Later, President Bill Clinton was impeached in 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice but was also acquitted by the Senate. Most recently, President Donald Trump was impeached twice, first in 2019 and again in 2021, but was acquitted both times as well.
Clinton was impeached but not officially removed from office, and Nixon was to be impeached but resigned before he could be impeached.
Technically no American president has been impeached and subsequently removed from office. Andrew Johnson was impeached, but acquitted. Richard Nixon resigned before his likely impeachment. Bill Clinton was impeached, but not removed from office. Presidents impeached: * Andrew Johnson: impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate * William (Bill) Clinton: also impeached but acquitted. Therefore, there have been two impeached, none removed.
