No. Ive completed the island (counterfeit Island) and the game like, almost have to do nothing about the boy. Exept giving the boy a green balloon (Have to be green you know)

You need to go to outside the cafe and talk to the boy. Then go in and talk to the man. He will ask you to find his cave tickets. Go to the cave entrance and look in the trash cans.( unless you already have them.) Move around garbage and you will find two tickets. Take the to the man and he will give you one. Go inside the cave and you will find a piece of the dragon picture, a secret entrance to the museum,and outside the exit a man will tell you to get the job at the museum and other things. Do as he says.
