Yes, an Xbox 360 Premium can play SOME original xbox games, though often an update is necessary to run the game, and the xbox live guide does not run in original xbox games. In the event that there is no update to allow that particular game to run, you may not be able to play it on 360. But, many lesser known obscure games can still be played on the 360. The games that most often aren't playable on 360 often either have an xbox 360 version and hence the developers didn't allow it, or it has a sequel for the 360 and would've defeated the purpose of bringing that franchise to the 360.
