The MacBook Air is the lower end laptop so I really don't think it would work well if you did get it to work. It came with permanently installed ram, meaning you cannot add more after it was purchased. Unless the MacBook Air's ram was maxed out when it was purchased new, that old of a laptop would just be too laggy.
If you know someone that has an account then you can try installing Minecraft on your computer and have them log into their Minecraft account and see if it will play well.

To open the Minecraft .jar file on a MacBook Air, locate the file in your Applications folder, then right-click and select "Open With," choosing "Java" or another compatible program. To install Minecraft mods, first ensure you have Minecraft Forge installed, which allows for mod compatibility. Download the desired mods, then place them in the "mods" folder located in the Minecraft directory (found under ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft). Finally, launch Minecraft using the Forge profile to enjoy your mods.
If you can play Minecraft then you can install the Too Many Items mod.
